Announcing the Xperia X10

Announcing the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10.

03 November 2009
Sony Ericsson XPERIA™ X10 introduces an open and integrated world of social media, communication and entertainment

XPERIA™ X10 is the flagship phone in a family of phones coming to market during the first half of 2010. The XPERIA™ X10 will be available in Q1 2010
New UX (user experience) platform lets consumers organise everything and discover more with the most open, human and intuitive user experience yet
London – November 3 2009 – Sony Ericsson today unveils the XPERIA™ X10, the first phone in a family of phones to deliver a consistent user experience where communication truly becomes entertainment. Building on Sony Ericsson’s entertainment heritage and combining rich graphics with intelligence capabilities, the XPERIA™ X10 introduces a new UX platform that will evolve across the product portfolio and expand over time continuously introducing new features and capabilities.

The UX platform builds on top of the Open OS and creates a unique Sony Ericsson user experience by combining best-in-class entertainment features with signature applications, unrivalled integration of social media services and a rich graphical user interface. The XPERIA™ X10 is the first mobile phone to truly humanise the way people interact with their phones.

Bert Nordberg, President, Sony Ericsson said, “The XPERIA™ X10 and the family of phones launching in the first half of 2010 underpin our commitment to an open and multi-platform strategy that maximises choice for the consumer and delivers the best possible consumer experience. The reaction from our global operator partners to the XPERIA X10 has been extremely positive and we will be rolling out across the world including Japan from the first half of 2010.”

Rikko Sakaguchi, EVP and Chief Creation Officer, Sony Ericsson said, “The XPERIA™ X10 is a fantastic example of our make.believe philosophy because we are pushing the boundaries of what is possible and demonstrating that anything consumers can imagine, we can make possible. With the X10, we are raising the bar we have set ourselves with entertainment-rich phones like Aino and Satio by making communication more fun and playful, multiplying and enriching opportunities to connect.”

Introducing signature applications like Mediascape and Timescape™, the XPERIA™ X10 lets consumers organise everything in their phone in an intuitive way:

Sony Ericsson Timescape™ manages all your communication with one person in one place. Browse through your conversations the bright way to check out your Facebook™, Twitter™, photos, emails, and texts all in one go
Sony Ericsson Mediascape is the smart way to get all the music, photos and videos you want from your favourite friends and artists. It accesses content from everywhere – your phone, YouTube™, PlayNow™ – and presents everything for you
Intelligence capabilities, integrated into Mediascape and Timescape™, can automatically recognise connections between contacts, content and media. By recommending alternative ways to communicate or guiding to new media experiences, consumers can discover more in a truly open way. For example:

Pressing the new “infinite button” guides you through the connected world, aggregating all your interactions with one person into one view
Intelligent face recognition features recognise up to five faces in any picture, automatically connecting them with your social phonebook and all other related communications with that person.
Sony Ericsson’s open approach gives consumers maximum choice and with the XPERIA™ X10, users can download any application that they want direct from a wide variety of stores including PlayNow™ and the Android Market™, co-creating an experience that is entirely unique to them.

Sony Ericsson is also introducing the new Wireless Stereo Headset with FM Radio - MW600. Featuring advanced Bluetooth™ technology and a built-in FM radio, MW600 lets you stream music to your headset in high fidelity through sound-enhancing ear-buds. With a crystal clear OLED display, easy access controls and RDS radio station information, you don’t even need to take your phone with you to tune in to your favourite radio station.

The XPERIA™ X10 supports GSM GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900, UMTS HSPA 900/1700/2100 and UMTS HSPA 800/850/1900/2100

Sony Ericsson Jalou Dolce&Gabbana edition

Sony Ericsson Jalou Dolce&Gabbana edition Press releases
Dolce&Gabbana design special edition Jalou for Sony Ericsson
12 August 2009 Get noticed with the limited edition Jalou by Dolce&Gabbana. The stunning rose coloured mobile phone, with real 24 carat gold plating, is an exclusive Dolce&Gabbana handset that will be available in select markets from Q4 2009.
London, UK – August 12, 2009: Jalou by Dolce&Gabbana is a special limited edition clamshell handset, exuding style and substance both inside and out. The Dolce & Gabbana branded style statement has a beautifully facet cut jewel form and is only 73mm long – shorter than your favourite lipstick, it is easy to slip into the tiniest clutch or jacket pocket and is full of essential features.

Jalou by Dolce&Gabbana comes complete with exclusive packaging and accessories – three silky rose satin bags to either protect the phone, store the charger, or to even carry jewellery. But that’s not all – it also comes with a special Dolce & Gabbana branded headset with gold accents to keep you connected in style.

Even the content is special on Jalou by Dolce&Gabbana. Exclusive photography and video clips from Dolce&Gabbana’s women’s Autumn/Winter 2010 runway show, with sneak peek footage from all the backstage action, will be pre-loaded on the handset. There is also a variety of stylish themes and wallpapers, as well as a Dolce & Gabbana blog that sends the latest trends, news and gossip directly to the mobile phone via an RSS feed.

Keep your eyes peeled for the advertising campaign at the beginning of October which will support the launch of Jalou by Dolce&Gabbana. Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce will work on the creativity themselves to deliver a stunning advertising campaign.

Jalou will also be made available by Sony Ericsson, in Q4 2009, in a variety of other gemstone inspired colours including Deep Amethyst, Aquamarine Blue and Onyx Black. Never mind a signature necklace or oversized shades; Jalou is the perfect accessory and Christmas present.

“Structured forms, intricate corners, hidden depths and jewel accents are set to be some of the hottest fashion trends in 2010. You can also expect to see deep and natural jewel colours on the runway next year. Jalou and Jalou by Dolce&Gabbana reflect these trends with its delicate facet-cut diamond shape design, clean and expressive lines and variety of different shine and matt finishes, that give depth to the handset,” comments Charles Hunt, Jalou head designer at Sony Ericsson.

Jalou’s host of features will keep you entertained and looking fabulous. The two inch screen’s clever design means that at the touch of a button the screen becomes a mirror, offering a discreet way to make sure you look as good as your mobile phone. It is also the first Sony Ericsson to feature Walk Mate step counter, to help you stay in shape wherever you go.

“The new Jalou and Jalou by Dolce&Gabbana are all about looking great and sharing the good life,” said Linda Schori, Marketing Business Manager at Sony Ericsson. “It was a pleasure working with Dolce&Gabbana and we achieved a beautiful handset without compromising on style or content. Jalou by Dolce&Gabbana has all the great features of Jalou but with added special elements such as 24 carat gold plating and exclusive Dolce & Gabbana content. It’s the handset for someone who wants that something extra. Both handsets are perfect for anyone who is sociable, loves fashion and wants to stay one step ahead of trends, because they have a fashion forward design you will want to show off. And, for such a compact handset, it has an immense amount of detail both inside and out.”

Other features on both Jalou by Dolce&Gabbana and Sony Ericsson’s Jalou include: the 3.2 megapixel camera, music player, video recording, 3G, Bluetooth™, built-in FM radio and Internet where you can check your email, watch YouTube™ clips, Google™, as well as upload your video and photos to your favourite social networking sites.

Jalou by Dolce&Gabbana will be available in selected markets in the fourth quarter 2009 exclusively in the colour Sparkling Rose.

London, UK – August 12, 2009: Beautiful inside and out, Jalou exudes style as well as substance for the ultimate in chic communication. Sony Ericsson's latest style statement is only 73mm long – shorter than your favourite lipstick, it is easy to slip into the tiniest clutch or jacket pocket and is full of essential features. Never mind a signature necklace or oversized shades; Jalou is the perfect accessory.

Known for its expertise in design and technology, Sony Ericsson explored art, architecture and furniture trends whilst delving deep into the couture and fashion world to ensure Jalou encapsulates some of the hottest fashion trends which will emerge next year.

You can also expect to see deep and natural jewel colours on the runway next year. Jalou reflects these trends with its delicate facet-cut diamond shape design, clean and expressive lines and variety of different shine and matt finishes, that give depth to the handset,” comments Charles Hunt, Jalou head designer at Sony Ericsson. “The design team wanted the handset to reflect beauty found in nature. They looked at structure, strength and form in various crystalline jewels, which resulted in the unique shape.”

Combining beauty with cutting-edge technology, Jalou’s host of features will keep you entertained and looking fabulous. The two inch screen’s clever design means that at the touch of a button the screen becomes a mirror, offering a discreet way to make sure you look as good as your mobile phone. Sony Ericsson GreenHeart

Sony Ericsson GreenHeart Press releases

Sony Ericsson launches new GreenHeart™ products with focus on sustainable innovation

04 June 2009

CO² footprint of GreenHeart pioneer phones reduced by 15%:

  • E-manual reduces paper usage by over 90%
  • Smaller packaging reduces transport emissions and paper usage
  • Minimum 50% recycled plastics
  • MH300 GreenHeart ™ headset includes 100% recycled plastics in most plastic parts

London – June 4, 2009 – Sony Ericsson today unveiled two new GreenHeart™ pioneer products underpinning its ongoing commitment to taking a lead on environmental sustainability by driving green innovation that doesn’t compromise on product design and functionality. The GreenHeart™ programme launches with two flagship products – the C901 GreenHeart™ and Naite– plus the MH300 GreenHeart ™ headset, one of the greenest headsets on the market. The GreenHeart™ concept is a key pillar in Sony Ericsson’s revitalised product portfolio strategy and the sustainable innovations found in the GreenHeart™ pioneer products will eventually roll out into the broader portfolio.

Both new GreenHeart™ phones build on Sony Ericsson’s industry leading ‘green core’, the result of a long standing commitment to eliminate the use of hazardous chemicals from the product design and manufacturing process.

The first flagship product to be launched, the C901 GreenHeart™, will include an electronic, in-phone manual to replace the standard paper version, saving over 90% in paper and reducing the environmental impact of transporting the final product through more compact packaging. The C901 GreenHeart™ phone casing is made from a minimum of 50% recycled plastics and includes an optimised display light sensor that uses less energy. The phone is coloured with waterborne paint that lowers exposure to Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC).

The C901 GreenHeart™ will ship with the MH300 GreenHeart ™ headset, one of the greenest headsets available, made up of 100% recycled plastics in 4 out of 5 hard plastic parts and far exceeding legal environmental requirements.

As well as featuring many of the innovations showcased in the C901 GreenHeart™, Naitewill come to market with a low-power charger, the EP300 GreenHeart™ charger, one of the first of its kind to be introduced to the market. Thanks to these innovations, the overall CO² footprint over the full life of the C901 GreenHeart™ and Naite is reduced by 15%.

The first GreenHeart™ pioneer phone, the C901 GreenHeart™ will also include a WalkMate application, letting users really walk the talk about being more eco-friendly by comparing the steps they take with the equivalent journey travelled by car. And Naite includes an Ecomate application helping users make greener choices in their everyday life as well as a Carbon Footprint Calculator to show you how much CO2 you are saving when you walk instead of taking the car.

“Building on the established heritage of our parent companies, Sony Ericsson has worked continuously to become an industry leader in the area of removing harmful substances from the core of its phones and in creating industry leading energy efficiency chargers,” said Dick Komiyama, President, Sony Ericsson. “Today we are announcing the next step in our sustainability strategy – the GreenHeart™ pioneer products - which launch with two innovative new phones and a commitment to roll out these innovations across the broader portfolio in 2010 and 2011, allowing us to build a more sustainable business.”

Sony Ericsson will use the product innovations in its new GreenHeart™ pioneer products to ‘green’ its full product portfolio going forward with the aim of setting a new benchmark in sustainability for the entire mobile phone industry. The GreenHeart™ handsets will play a key role in Sony Ericsson’s newly invigorated product portfolio strategy.

For more information on the GreenHeart™ programme and Sony Ericsson’s overall sustainability commitment, please join us for a global web cast and Q&A at 13:00 (UK time) on Thursday 4th June. www.sonyericsson.com/greenheart

“We are fully supportive of Sony Ericsson’s GreenHeart™ initiative because it is so closely aligned with Telefonica O2 UK’s own ambitions to make Sustainability central to our business strategy ", says Bill Eyres, Head of Corporate Responsibility, Environment and Sustainability at Telefonica O2 UK. "We know from consumer insight that environmental issues, particularly climate change, are now a significant concern for our customers. Furthermore, we also believe that operating more sustainably is a business opportunity, enabling us to function more efficiently and keep the Customer at the heart of all we do. "

“With growing public concern about climate change and increased competition for natural resources, TeliaSonera welcomes more “green” and sustainable choices for our customers like the new GreenHeart phones from Sony Ericsson", says Indra Ã…sander, Senior Vice President and Head of Product Management in Mobility Services at TeliaSonera. "Over the past two years we have seen an increase in “green-behaviour-change” among our customers, such as using more communication services to reduce travel and the resulting CO2 footprint. We believe this new initiative to move green behaviour into the mobile manufacturing process is one key step forward for the industry in responding to consumer demand".

Nardono Nimpuno, Senior Policy Advisor, International Chemical Secretariat (ChemSec) added, “The GreenHeart™ project is confirmation of Sony Ericsson’s active engagement in the Chemsec Business Group and their extensive internal work on chemical management. Through the GreenHeart™ project, with its high ambitions for sustainability and toxic use reduction initiatives, Sony Ericsson is striving for a leadership role in the field of corporate chemicals management.”

Q3 2009 will also see the continued roll out of Sony Ericsson’s global take-back programme which has been in operation since 2007. By allowing consumers to send back used mobile phones, the programme ensures that they do not end up in landfills but are sent to specialised mobile phone recycling centres. This means that both components and materials are used again, reducing the need to extract and refine raw materials for new products.

Sony Ericsson PlayNow™ arena with movies Press releases

PlayNow™ arena with movies brings feature films to mobile phones

28 May 2009

Sony Ericsson delivers on its strategy of being the Communication Entertainment brand with the launch of an unique mobile movie service, offering big screen movies combined with amazing small screen quality.

London, UK – May 28, 2009 – Sony Ericsson today strengthens its commitment to providing unique entertainment experiences on the mobile handset with the launch of PlayNow™ arena with movies, the latest addition to the PlayNow™ arena content delivery platform. The announcement delivers upon the company’s Communication Entertainment strategy which was shared at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona earlier this year.

PlayNow™ arena with movies is a bundled movie service from Sony Ericsson, included out-of-the-box for selected handsets, allowing consumers to watch up to 60 movies a year on their mobile phone. Optimised to give consumers the best possible viewing experience, users can choose from a selection of around 15 movies at any one time, with additional titles being added to the catalogue each month. After ‘side loading’ feature length films onto your phone, you can watch them as often as you like for up to 90 days.

Downloaded movies will be automatically formatted to match the performance of your phone. Experience sublime picture quality, soulful sound and images so sharp you’ll have no trouble reading subtitles and seeing the small details.

“Consumers are increasingly looking for exciting content and premium entertainment experiences wherever they are. By adding a bundled movie proposition to PlayNow™ arena we continue to remove barriers for consumers to easily access entertainment through their mobile phone” said Martin Blomkvist, Head of Content Acquisition and Management at Sony Ericsson.

PlayNow™ arena with movies - how it works

  • Download movies to your computer from www.playnow-arena.com/movies
  • Transfer them to your Sony Ericsson phone by ‘side loading’ them from your computer to your phone using your USB device
  • Watch them as often as you like for up to 90 days. The specially formatted movies are not playable on any other device
  • Choose from a selection of around 15 movies at any one time, with approximately four additional titles being added to the catalogue each month to replace outgoing content
  • A total of up to 60 movies can be downloaded during a twelve month period
  • The available movie catalogue will be a country-specific mix of classics and newer titles

PlayNow™ arena with movies will make its debut with the W995 Walkman™, launching in Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Germany and the UK from June 2009. Additionally the service will also be made available on upcoming phones such as Satio and Aino which were also announced today.

Sony Ericsson Yari Press releases

Twist, tilt, turn, smash - gesture gaming is here with the Sony Ericsson Yari

28 May 2009

Challenge your friends to the newest invention in mobile phone gaming. Yari debuts Gesture gaming – forget about pushing buttons, with Gesture gaming you make the moves in front of the screen to get right in the middle of the action!

London, UK – May 28, 2009 – Today Sony Ericsson launches Yari the ultimate phone for mobile fun, whether it’s gaming you’re after or multimedia action. Nothing to hold, nothing to twist – except your body - gesture gaming technology gives users a unique gaming experience no matter where they are. With a variety of games to choose from, whether you want to keep fit and stay in shape or just want to beat your best score at tennis or boxing, Yari brings you fun wherever you are.

And with Yari there’s always a new game to play. In addition to gesture games, there is a mix of pre loaded motion and standard games. Yari introduces a games carousel that allows you to access all your games from your desktop and to browse downloadable content on PlayNow™ arena. You can view content by category and choose to browse free or premium content – so no matter your preferences there’s one to suit you.

“Yari is the industry’s first mobile phone with gesture gaming outside of the Japanese market,” said Catherine Cherry, Market Business Manager at Sony Ericsson. “It’s time to move like you’ve never moved on a mobile phone before! With Gesture gaming you move your body to play instead of pressing buttons on the phone, giving you a fun experience that even helps you keep fit. If you’ve exhausted yourself with the games there are loads of other multimedia features to enjoy. Snap your friends with the five megapixel camera or chill out to your favourite tunes with the state-of-the art music player”.
